The IGP Calçot de Valls was born 25 years ago, bringing together fourteen members with a production of 400,000 calçots and in 2020 they celebrate it with fifty members and with a campaign that is expected to be record, given that it is expected a production of about 18 million calçots, if the weather continues to accompany.
The IGP Calçot de Valls wants to highlight the work being done by the entity in recent years in order to improve the presentation and organoleptic characteristics of the calçot in order to further increase its quality. The calçot of the IGP must be grown in the Alt Camp, Baix Camp, Tarragonès and Baix Penedès regions. It has a white leg of a length of 15 to 25 centimeters and a diameter of 1.7 to 2.7 centimeters. In addition, each bunch, which can be 15.25 or 50 calçots, includes a tag with a number of reference that follows its traceability. On the other hand, internal and external inspections have been added in recent years in order to guarantee quality through the controls of regulations and requirements.
